Evans will join Ferrari team Inception Racing in its 296 GT3 as part of the GTD division, partnering Brendan Iribe (United States) and Ollie Millroy (Great Britain).

The New Zealander will take Frederik Schandorff’s place, who had a prior commitment in the Spa 24 with Selected Car Racing.

ENTRY LIST: IMSA Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen

It marks his first IMSA start since 2023 when he joined Porsche squad Kelly Moss Racing at Daytona, Sebring and Watkins Glen.

Evans was recommended to the team by former Inception Racing driver Jordan Pepper with support from Davide Rigon, who partnered Evans at Arise Racing GT in the Bathurst 12 Hour.

“The opportunity came about because Fred’s not available, he’s racing at Spa, and they know I’ve driven the Ferrari and have been to Watkins Glen before, so it snowballed from there,” Evans told Speedcafe.

“It’s a pretty cool opportunity. I’m obviously really excited to get back to IMSA. It’s such a cool championship, it’s such a cool track. Hopefully we’ll have a good result.”

This year, Evans is competing full-time in GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS with Arise with a part-time Supercars co-drive at Walkinshaw TWG Racing.

With fingers in both pies, the 29-year-old is open to racing full-time in IMSA or Supercars if the opportunity presents itself.

“I love the championship, I love how they go racing over there,” Evans said of IMSA.

“It’s definitely something that I wouldn’t say no to.

“The Supercars thing is still on the radar, but with a heavy focus on GT racing I’m really enjoying it and there are obviously plenty of opportunities worldwide.

“Hopefully I can do a good enough job with this team and at least get in front of a few people while I’m over there and hopefully something comes of it.

“I’m really enjoying my racing this year. If the opportunity to re-enter Supercars full-time came about, I would have to look at how that looks and the forecast for the years following, rather than just short-term.

“Now that I’ve been and done it, I don’t want to go there and not be in a competitive car because it turns something that you enjoy and love into more of a chore and it’s frustrating at times.

“If there’s light at the end of the tunnel, then sure, I’d love to be full-time in Supercars – but at the same time, if I can continue to travel the world and race pretty cool cars with some great teams and still come back and do the enduros maybe I’d continue to focus on that.”

The Watkins Glen leg of the IMSA SportsCar Championship sees teams run expanded line-ups as part of the Endurance Cup.

That event will feature a throng of drivers from Australia and New Zealand, headlined by Earl Bamber alongside Jack Aitken in the Action Express Racing Cadillac V-Series.R in GTP.

Hunter McElrea returns to the United Autosports fold with Phil Fayer and Mikkel Jensen in LMP2.

Scott Andrews returns to Lone Star Racing in its Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Lin Hodenius and James Roe in GTD.

Tom Sargent makes his IMSA return with Wright Motorsports in GTD with Adam Adelson and Callum Ilott in their Porsche 911 GT3 R.
